Great "old school" proper pub. We popped in here just as the kitchen was closing and the landlady offered us sandwiches which was very accommodating. Lovely boxer dog pup ( pub did have an all-pervading smell of dog though). Decor is interesting and a refreshing change from gastro pubs. Sandwiches were expensive for what we got and pretty basic ( cheap packet white bread , not much filling and tired salad leaves) but we were hungry and made do. Nice beer 🍺 👌. Would stop here again for the atmosphere , a pint and packet of crisps but not the food .

A cold day, two log fires burning in this very old pub. Excellent, friendly and efficient bar service, and if you like your beer you'll find very well kept bitters. Well worth a trip.

Looks OK as a traditional pub. But it wasn't cosy, it wasn't warm enough. The welcome and service were adequate, but the food wasn't. Simple fish and chips was tasteless and greasy. Batter was overdone in lightly burned old oil. 'Mine host' was apologetic enough, and seemed to take my comments seriously, but I don't think I'll chance it again

Stopped off by chance as we like old pubs, didn't book and it was busy, no problem, great staff, fantastic steak and ale pie, lovely atmosphere and then you notice the history of the place, the archers, shakespeare, wow, what an absolute gem, can't recommend highly enough
