Stapleton Tavern

Good food and a friendly staff in this quaint pub. We came in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday and they had already run out of a few things, but worked to be accommodating. I had the Sunday roast, which was just what you would want/expect. We enjoyed our food while the football was on, but there is a side of the pub without tvs, if that is what you are looking for. Also....what a great name for a pub!

Decent pub - nice friendly bar staff. Plenty of seats and not bad selection on tap. Back toilets are atrocious, but lots of quirky little touches elsewhere. Looks like a good spot to watch the football with various screens around and I noticed a large projector screen too.

Really disappointed with the staff here. We had booked a table for 12 to watch the Arsenal game last night (this was very clearly mentioned in the booking), we were 3 mins late for the 15 minute window mentioned in the booking policy and they’d given the table away. I appreciate its their policy, but you’d expect a bit more hospitality toward returning customers than they showed. We were there to watch a game kicking off at 20.00. had booked a table for 19.00, it shouldn’t make any difference if we arrive at 19.14 or 19.18. Also worth mentioning that the table that had our name on it wasn’t the same table that had been promised to us in the email, it would’ve been a squeeze to fit 12 people on it and we’d have had a terrible view of the screen. I asked to speak with the manager, and was told he wasn’t available. If you want to treat good customers that way then at least take the time to speak with them rather than passing messages down the bar via the mildly aggressive bar tender. I’ve been visiting this pub for 20 years and now sadly won’t be returning, or recommending it to anyone. Luckily their competitors over the road were able to accommodate us. Big up to the Old Dairy! Much friendlier staff, better food too. And the less said about Stapleton taverns hygiene rating the better!

Johnny is a stellar babe. 10/10 service. Absolute gem - he’s a lovey man, so open, so genuine, so down to earth and incredibly charismatic. First time visiting and won’t be my last!

It's hard to write this, but I have to as it's a nice place, but the glasses are absolutely filthy!! Guinness is served in non-branded pint glasses and they are charging £6.90 a pint, yet the glasses are absolutely disgustingly dirty inside and you can see it in the pour. It's unfathomable to charge this for a totally inadequate pour in a dirty glass.

When you’re paying £6.90 a Guinness, and you’re the only one at the bar, you’d expect it to be poured at least half-properly, and not left unhandled to fill up by itself. It really doesn’t take much.

Wanted to spoil a friend visiting England with a Sunday roast. Heard good things so thought would try. Unfortunately it was so dreadful. The service! The waitress was more concerned flirting and chatting to the chef and her friends than taking our order. We had to call her eventually to take our order. We had the sirloin roast. And was absolutely like jerky! So tough! No flavour. Cooked dry. No steak knives. The roast potatoes tasted old and cooked a few days before. And way to hard. Not even crunchy. Just hard and stale. But we were so hungry and paid £18 for it. We ate it. We then sat for over 20 mins with the dirty plates in front of us while the waitress set up tables that she hadn't even wiped down after people left and continued to talk to the chef. Eventually I had to ask the gentleman waiter to remove our plates. We were debating having dessert. But the service was so so so awful and after such a let down on the Sunday roast. We honestly just wanted to get out!! I would highly suggest training for the waiters and perhaps a slightly different approach on the roast beef. The service was shocking!! I definitely won't be back and sadly won't recommend.

Nice beers, friendly staff, plenty of lovely leather sofas dotted around. Ordered a bowl of chips for my daughter and was asked if I wanted ketchup or mayo, usual kind of thing. I asked if we could get gravy and they managed to sort something out. A class act! Good chips as well. Will be going back to check out more of the menu.
