First time I have been here and absolutely loved it. A generous sized car park, however the parking spaces are quite "cosy" so you need to be a bit of a stick insect to get out of your car! The staff were friendly, polite and courteous. The food was incredible. I was just expecting the usual "pub grub", but was pleasantly surprised that that was not the case at all. There was an acceptable choice of meals without it being overwhelming. The food was nicely presented on the plates and they ensured you had clean cutlery at all times as well as a clean paper napkin. I like to be able to take my time eating so it's extremely important to me that the plates are hot when placed in front of you. They were hot, but they weren't super hot. Red hot would have been ideal, but perhaps with health and safety that's not allowed? When I ordered my food I did not want chips with it and asked if I could have vegetables instead. This request was dealt with efficiency and without any fuss. Perfectly roasted root vegetables were served along with some broccoli which was cooked to perfection; not undercooked or overcooked. I will be back!!

I cannot thank this restaurant enough for the incredible service they provided, especially during such an emotional and stressful time for my family. This was a last minute booking after we experienced terrible service at a previously booked venue. I was calling around in a panic, and although several places technically had availability, none of them offered the reassurance and genuine care that Kate did .. without even knowing how much I needed it. From the very first conversation, her welcoming, calming presence was second to none. This was a celebration of life for my grandad, and I was desperate to give him the send off he truly deserved. Kate immediately checked availability and even took the extra step of confirming everything with her chef, which showed the trust and respect she has for her team. In the lead up to the day, I contacted Kate about a vision I had for the decor. I was worried it wouldn’t be possible, but she encouraged me to send photos so she could find a way to make it happen. She even offered us some leftover helium for our balloons to help reduce costs .. another thoughtful gesture she didn’t have to make, but one that meant so much. When I met with Kate and the chef, they went above and beyond yet again. Kate broke down all the food options with such care and detail. With several family members unable to eat gluten, she highlighted every safe option and walked us through them individually. Her attention to detail was incredible. The communication was flawless throughout. Kate kept in touch consistently, reassuring me that everything was under control. She told me she wanted me to enjoy the day and that she would take on the stress and she absolutely did. On the day itself, the staff allowed us to come in early to set up. They helped move furniture, offered suggestions, and kept us calm through it all. Their kindness genuinely made a difference. And the food… AMAZING. Every single person commented on how wonderful both the food and the venue were. We have never received so many compliments, and that meant the world to us. My grandad always said, “If people enjoy the food, then they’ve had a nice time.” That’s all he ever wanted and Kate made that happen. To Kate and the entire team: I truly cannot thank you enough. Your compassion, professionalism, and genuine care transformed what was an incredibly stressful and heartbreaking time in our lives into a beautiful day filled with warmth and comfort. Because of you, I was able to give my grandad the send off he deserved, and I know he would have been so proud. I can’t express how much that means to me. For anyone considering this venue, I could not recommend them more highly you will be supported and cared for in every possible way.

We had the pleasure of having Christmas dinner at the axe and it was fantastic; the welcome was warm and friendly with crackers, Christmas hats and a takeaway box of goodies greeting us, the service was faultless great timing, attention to detail and nothing was too much. The food was fabulous, one of our party was gluten free and their food was catered for at the same level as everyone else's which often isn't the case, and was brought out separately and things checked. Overall I would thoroughly recommend this place for Christmas day they did it so well or all year round! We will be back many times on 2026

Went for Sunday lunch not been for awhile and was craving the gravy was not disappointed absolutely stunning. Food cooked to perfection went for the mixed meat and all of it was so tasty staff were all attentive and polite still thinking about that gravy now 👌🏼

My aunty and I stopped by for a catch-up over dinner and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The Service: We were looked after by Freya, who provided lovely, attentive service. She made us feel right at home! The Starters: We tried the Mushroom Yum, which was absolutely amazing, and the Salt and Chili Squid, which had the perfect kick. The Mains: I opted for the Pie, and I can’t complain—it was hearty and delicious. My aunt went with the Sea Bass and spoke very highly of it; it was cooked beautifully.

We arrived and was seated by one of the waitresses named Rose….a very smart presented young lady with fantastic skills in her service. The food was amazing and delicious. I would highly recommend a visit to the Axe & Square.

Had another fantastic meal last night. What started as an initial booking for four, then six and then finally seven of us, we couldn’t have asked for better service. I rang up three times to change the number of people but nothing was too much trouble to change for us ! Greeted by the lovely Sam who is always so cheerful and waited on by three lovely ladies (sorry can’t remember their names), we all had a brilliant time. Thank you 😀
