The Royal Oak

A proper village pub! Eccentric loveable landlord, Pool table, dart board and lots of live music! Friendly staff, food, B&B, beer garden. Public car park 2 min walk away. What more could you want! We’ve always had a wonderful time at The Royal Oak.

Great two night stay. The room was clean, bright and spacious, breakfast was great, very friendly atmosphere and the location is superb, close to the best beaches and scenery.

DO NOT ENTER Horrible reception from the landlord. Walk through the door into the pool table area and if you look to your right and there is pile of clutter. We made the mistake and continued to the bar where the smell got worse and the barmaid greeted us but by this point we had all decided it wasn’t worth the risk to eat there. Dirty, smelly and dismal. Would not recommend for anyone to walk in there let alone eat or drink.

I always look forward to local pub grub when we are away on a cheeky weekend. The Guinness was good, but the cleanliness was something else. It has a courtyard garden with dead christmas trees and rotton tables. The pub itself is very confused with its decor. One minute, you think you're at a comic convention. The next corner, you're confronted with Buddha's, skulls, and grizzly bears. If the pub is dirty, what are the kitchens like, i wonder. Hasten to say we didn't eat. The lady behind the bar was very friendly.

The landlord is unwelcoming, confrontational, and rude. My mother went in to use the toilet and I bought a Diet Coke whilst I waited so as not to use the premises without making a purchase. The response I got “is that all you’re having? What does she want?”, coupled with a dirty look. I responded with “yeah, is that alright?” and he gave a disgruntled response and left me be. Safe to say I hardly felt welcome. The Royal Oak is a public house… don’t get upset when members of the public visit. Some money is better than none. Had we been treated better we may have returned as visitors to the area on holiday. The landlord bit his nose off despite his face. Good luck, bud.

Locals pub but made to feel welcome. Bar maid was very nice chatty and very efficient. Bar prices very good and had a good rose wine available. Decent selection of beers & ales. Saw food on other tables looked okay. Close to where we were staying was a pleasant few hours spent in the pub

I normally like 'locals pubs', most people are fine if you're friendly. The landlord seemed to have an attitude, and it didn't come over well. He should perhaps put a sign up saying 'Only locals welcome '. It's been a long time since I encountered this and its a shame because the beer was decent. The other pub was friendly and welcoming and I'd recommend that one instead.

Fortunate to find this eclectic wonder whilst looking for somewhere to eat on a Friday evening.... A busy bar with just enough people to make it homely, without too many destroying the remarkable service or quality of food. My fish and chips and number one's burger were filling and well cooked, but it was the brie starter and home made garlic bread for a side dish which made the menu so amazing. Good food, well cooked, timely served and cooked to order... Oh, they also sell beer. Amazeballs.
