When unexpected demand spikes, big faceless companies like Uber implement surge pricing. This place did the opposite - and I’m hugely grateful. Stuck in a snowstorm with no way to complete my journey after six long hours in the car, the Stokesay Inn was my salvation at 10pm on a January Thursday. The woman who welcomed me off the snowy streets halved the room rate in light of the conditions outside. I was one of four stranded travellers who took advantage of this generosity and community spirit. Her and the barman (I don’t know if they’re the joint owners) couldn’t have been more accommodating, laying on free food and just generally being hugely hospitable. The room was great (large and spotlessly clean with an en suite) but this review is more about the welcome I received, which I think tells you all you need to know about the place. I couldn’t have asked for somewhere better to be stranded. And I was able to make my way home the next day after a good night’s sleep. Thank you, Stokesay Inn!

Got this booking for one night, arrived around 6pm after a long day to be told that no food was available as they had just taken over and did not have a chef, fair enough. So asked if anything nearby, more interested in telling the couple of guys at the bar about her partner had covid! Really cold in the place ,showed me my room to be fair she took my bag up for me which was very nice of her.went about 15 mim drive to find somewhere to have food. On my return bar was closed so I asked if I could heating on in my room and she did come up and tried to put it on.this was only about 7.30 ,nothing happened with heating so couldn't get shower it was really cold ,room was very tired and basic, no pictures on the walls nothing, tv was tiny but thought oh well get under the cover and watch it. Couldn't hear it very quiet sound. No Internet password, no staff to ask ,landlady doesn't live on site...,didn't have much sleep as so cold. Went down at 8 am as was told breakfast was after 8 .no menu just asked what do you want ? .must say the lady serving breakfast was really nice Ella .had to ask her a few times if I could have a coffee as the sachets in the room were awful cheap ones ,and she agreed, so made me a coffee. Breakfast was lukewarm but had a little of it to warm me up..would I go again not a chance.

Expensive basic room. No heating in December and no breakfast that we had booked and paid for. ||The bar is basic, but fine.

Having happened upon the Stokesay Inn on a getaway to Shropshire, we went in on the off chance that we could get a quick drink and a snack before our walk back to the campsite we were staying at. Asking if there was food, we were told that it was only pork baps and roast potatoes on the menu that day. Not wanting a full meal, the lovely gent behind the bar was more than willing to do just a portion of roasties for us. They were genuinely the nicest roast potatoes I've had in some time. Hot and fresh too! We also got 2 ciders and 2 soft drinks, all reasonably priced 😀 Sitting out in the glorious sunshine, before the weather took a turn.. delightful! Didn't stay overnight so can't comment on the rooms. It wasn't busy, but could have been as it was earlier in the day time

Customer service was great we popped in for a spur of the moment Sunday lunch. Nice to see much needed improvements inside & out. Food was served promptly & very enjoyable - just a little suggestion for hygiene & cleanliness the staff member working the bar & cleaning tables with a cloth that looked like it had been used to clean the floors. Maybe have a separate cloth for the bar use & one for cleaning in the eating areas/ tables etc.

Upon arrival they had but my online booking in at the wrong date. So I was out in a room with no linnen or working lock on the door. Luckily that was fixed in short notice. Despite giving in my breakfast order and time I wanted breakfast I was told I would likely take a while, because the cleaning lady had to make breakfast and this was her first attempt. So some bits where under and other burned. Staffs advise? Laugh about it. Please spend your well earned money elsewhere as this place doesn’t care about your health of comfort.
