The Marlborough

We arrived as a party of 6 to celebrate a birthday. We chose The Marlborough for two reasons, we had had breakfast there before and always said we would try the lunch menu and, looking at their website, it said that the lunch menu was available on a Sunday. Having one member of the party not liking roast dinners we saw that there was an option of a burger on the lunch menu. It was not until we were seated that we were told that this is not the case and that it was Sunday menu or something from the bar menu or nothing. He had to settle for a bowl of chips !!! Secondly, another member of the party ordered the chicken goujons and chips. These came out with the other meals but they turned out to be fish goujons (didn’t even see these on the menu). These were returned to the kitchen with a promise that it would be sorted. This took so long that the rest of the party had finished their meals before the goujons arrived. No apology, no one from management coming to see us, nothing. I have heard that at other restaurants this incorrect meal would have been removed from the bill but no, everything listed at full price and when the waitress arrived I had a card machine thrust in front of me and being told to choose which tip option I wanted to add. I’m sorry but we won’t be coming back.

Absolutely stunning. Simple. We stayed just the one night. The room was lovely with a comfy bed and great shower. As for the food, oh dear god! The shepherds pie was incredible. The flavours, the textures everything just worked. Starters and desert were also amazing and the breakfast which was included in our room, well the awesome food theme continued. Hosts were all friendly and attentive. It’s now our new go to destination when we fancy a break away from the ‘big smoke’. Thank you to all at The Marlborough! You made our stay a memorable one.

On our way from Ipswich to Harwich, we made a stop at The Marlborough. Very convenient, knowing that you have to catch the 11PM boat to Hoek van Holland. It became even better, when we placed our orders in the very cozy atmosphere of this hotel/restaurant. The food is either very British or Fusion, but overall very good and tasty. Everything you wish for, driving through the countryside of Suffolk, passing through, on your way to other destinations. The staff in this restaurant is as amazing as the food. Kind, accurate, and always there, before you even think of hailing the waiter. A big thank you to Ellen for forwarding this address to us. Considering that hundreds of people take the night boat daily, this restaurant should be overbooked every day. Which reminds me, call them, make a reservation. That's the only thing with outstanding places, you can't just walk in and expect they have a table for you. Be proactive, give them a call. It will not disappoint you. Thank you, Marlborough people!

Booked a birthday lunch for 7 including 3 veggies, 1 pescatarian, 2 meat eaters (one also gluten intollerant) and a small child. Our lovely server Teresa found great food for all of us. Everything beautifully presented and piping hot. Recommend the sea bass and veggie hotpot. Desserts were great too particularly sticky toffee pud and raspberry cheesecake (home made). They had 3 real ales on all from local breweries. Overall a brilliant lunch at a great pub.

The food was superb. Our waiter Wilf was excellent & made great recommendation for the Roast Ham option which all 4 of us ended up having & were really impressed - it was delicious. |Definitely 100% customer service. Lady at the bar also brilliant & very attentive (please restock that Mermaid Gin!) We would highly recommend to anyone looking for good quality food, lovely atmosphere and first class service. Stayed for 2 nights b&b with party of two couples and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A lovely team of professional, friendly staff made sure that we were well looked after providing a fantastic personal service from breakfast through to end of evening. Rooms really comfortable and food delicious. Thank you for a lovely holiday

We had a Sunday roast, it was really nice best roast I have had an ages. Everything was to perfection couldn’t fault it. Dessert was really lovely too.. staff was great aswell. We will definitely be going back

The table we had was right by the walkway between bar and kitchen, my partner kept getting knocked as people walked by. There weee other tables empty so why they out people on that one I don’t know. Food mediocre shepherds pie was mostly potato and the mushy peas were microwaved like warm. I think being in a tourist destination they do nit have to rely on repeat business and locals like us.
