The Rose & Crown & Guesthouse

We were looking for comfortable overnight accommodation nr Bath. The Rose and Crown came up on our internet search. Cheaper than hotels in Bath itself but only 15 minutes away. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Great selection of beers, wines and whiskey’s. Very spacious room, large bed, tea and coffee making facilities, great shower, TV and room was just 1 flight of stairs from bar restaurant but no noise from there in our room. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and superb selection of meals available, large portions and cooked fabulously. We were lucky to stumble upon this place but will def go back for a longer stay and highly recommend to anyone looking for first class accommodation in the area. Niamh was very warm and welcoming as were all the the staff later in the evening. Oh and a complimentary continental breakfast in the very reasonable price

Went away for an anniversary aiming to stay somewhere nice and quiet away from busy city life and I think this was spot on. In the evening the pub downstairs had a few of us enjoying drinks and food. I enjoyed the madras from the specials while my wife enjoyed the plant based katsu chicken with rice. Food was really good and felt somewhat homely. It's easy to get used to the ready made warmed up meals of high street pub grub where as this place was clearly made from scratch. Drinks felt a bit pricey but at the same time the staff were so welcoming and lovely that it felt like we were partially paying for that service too. They regularly checked we were ok and that we were happy with our meal. On to our room. A massive soft double bed which I loved feeling snuggled into! The linen smelt lovely to sleep against. All very tidy and well presented, the wife wished we stayed more than one night as it was so comfy in our room. My only slight issue to raise was the regular flickering of lights which seemed to happen in the bathroom, main light and bed side lamps even if it was just one on at a time. In the morning there are breakfast bits available in the lounge. Fruit, cereals and croissants as well as access to teas, coffees and the coffee machine for the latte and cappuccino lovers among us. It would appear that once upon a time toast was available based on the jam and butter in the fridge but self service and now staff meant I was not able to seek a toaster but this is very minor in the grand scheme of things. Would definitely love to come back again one day for an enjoyable nice stay for some time away from busy city life!

This was a great choice for lodging. We stayed here 2 nights in the first room up the stairs , it was newly remodeled & newly carpeted. Everything was well thought out, from the decore to the tea kettle and biscuits in the room & a book with walking maps of the area . We had dinner that evening in the pub and it too was fabulous. The pub is visited by locals and you just felt like home with everyone else. There is a continental breakfast offered on Saturday for $7 pounds , well worth it. Plenty of free parking , but if you are not driving, it’s an easy 15 minute ride on uber to Bath. The owner was also very pleasant and gave us a complimentary breakfast on Monday. I would definitely return to this charming little area when visiting Bath.

Lovely little pub in a sleepy village on the outskirts of Bath. My partner and I stayed for one night and it felt really homely and comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive and the room was spacious, clean, and cozy. The bed was so comfy too! Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.

Nice pub in a small quiet village, clean and comfortable rooms, peaceful nights sleep. Can add breakfast on (Continental only) £6.95 pp, didn’t do this as we had to work. Evening food was lovely! Nice selection of drinks too. Large car park, felt safe and secure.

Always a friendly welcome from Shaun and the team. Very comfortable, sparkling clean and ideal for visiting our grandchildren nearby. Wide choice of cold offerings for serve-yourself breakfast. All in all, excellent.

A Five-Star Lesson in Disappointment (If You’re Into That Sort of Thing)||Ah, where to begin? Maybe with the two waitresses, not friendly, and seemingly fresh out of “how to be a waitress” school. Service was well-intentioned, just not particularly competent.||Now, brace yourself for the cutting-edge house policy: no outdoor tabs allowed. Despite being overnight guests with our full details on file, we were told the system simply couldn’t process such a radical concept. Oddly enough, other customers commented on the same issue, so we weren’t alone in our confusion—or our disbelief.||And the culinary highlight? The small haddock and fries, which lived up to exactly one part of its name: small. That said, it was genuinely delicious and reasonably priced, so we’ll give credit where credit’s due… reluctantly.||No iron in the room either—apparently due to a history of guests who couldn’t distinguish fabric from carpet. So instead of replacing the carpet, they’ve just removed the appliance. Elegant problem-solving.||We won’t be rushing back, but thanks for the experience. We’ll cherish it every time we look at our creased clothes and remember the taste of very tasty, very tiny fish!!

Overall our meal and service was good and value for money but it was spoiled by the worst Crème Brûlée ever! Made with soggy pastry not in a dish and no crunch at all to the topping! Avoid this dish at all times, but not the pub!!
